Some 287 Nominated for 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, Trump Likely Among Candidates

Oslo, April 30, 2026: A total of 287 candidates have been put forward for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, according to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, with U.S. President Donald Trump believed to be among the possible nominees.

The list includes 208 individuals and 79 organizations, committee secretary Kristian Berg Harpviken said on Thursday. The official identities of Nobel Peace Prize nominees are kept confidential for 50 years, meaning the committee does not confirm or deny specific names on the list.

However, leaders from Cambodia, Israel and Pakistan have publicly stated that they nominated Trump for the 2026 award. If those nominations were submitted before the January 31 deadline, they would be considered valid under Nobel rules.

Harpviken said there had been significant change in the nomination list compared with previous years, noting that many new names had appeared. He added that the Peace Prize remains highly relevant at a time when conflicts are increasing and international cooperation is under pressure.

A Nobel Peace Prize nomination does not mean endorsement by the Norwegian Nobel Committee. Thousands of eligible people around the world can submit nominations, including members of national governments, parliamentarians, current heads of state, university professors in selected fields and former Nobel Peace Prize winners.

Alongside Trump, several other figures and organizations are being discussed as possible contenders. Names mentioned in public speculation include Russian opposition figure Yulia Navalnaya, Pope Leo, and Sudan's Emergency Response Rooms, a volunteer aid network active during the country’s conflict.

The committee also expressed concern over the health of jailed Iranian human rights activist Narges Mohammadi, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2023. Harpviken said reports about her condition were alarming and urged Iranian authorities to allow her access to proper medical treatment.

Other possible nominees include U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski and Aaja Chemnitz, a Danish parliament member from Greenland. Norwegian lawmaker Lars Haltbrekken said he nominated them for their work in supporting trust and peaceful development in the Arctic region.

The winner of the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize is scheduled to be announced on October 9. The official award ceremony will take place on December 10, the anniversary of Alfred Nobel’s death.
